BEWARE THE MOON REVIEWS
Know what one of my favourite things in the world is? When a film you were certain was going to be bad, actually turns out to be not so bad, and actually rather entertaining. That is Honeymoon from Hell to a T pretty much. 'When young newlyweds Julia and Rivers find themselves trapped in a quaint, Carolina coastal bed and breakfast with fellow stragglers during a dangerous hurricane, they soon begin to suspect they are being haunted by the legendary ghost of Alice Flagg.'
I started watching Honeymoon from Hell very late at night, and you know what that means, that means I had no plan to have to concentrate and I planned to turn my brain off. Honeymoon from Hell started off in the way I had expected, filmed like one of those bad TV movie and with acting that definitely would not make it to the Oscars. And not just because the Oscars don't tend to be a fan of horror movies...
It goes on for a bit like this, nothing bad, just average, you get to know the couple, they go on a little honeymoon holiday, they stay at a cute like hotel with a more than quirky owner - all of that stuff, not bad just the same. But, but, it then starts to get a little bit more interesting, it starts getting into the dirty stuff, and ghostly figures are spotted throughout the house, doors are being closed, and those horrible taps and noises that you blame on the pipes start happening. This is about the time I really start paying attention...
The ghost starts appearing, and obviously, no one else sees it apart from Julia, but people either think she's harmlessly mad or pregnant, turns out one is true but there is actually a ghost in the house too. And of course there is a slutty character who tries to catch the eye of the husband - they always seem the most carefree in these films, don't you think? The slutty ones are always the ones who walk around acting like they have no cares in the world, even if they are being a tad naughty trying to break up relationships.
Anyhoo, as soon as the ghost starts appearing, and they hear the story of Alice, the ghost, it really does start getting interesting, mainly interesting because of the damn twist. The damn good twist that I actually did not see coming and that really makes your thoughts on each character change - by this point I am thinking I need to go to bed, but I am literally sitting on the edge of the sofa, leaning on my hands on my knees. I am THAT into it.
I am not a spoiler, so I shall not be saying the twist, but it's a good one, I in no way saw it coming and was not expecting it, especially from what I thought was a TV movie.
One thing I do find with movies like this, they do sometimes turn more into an action type film at the end and tend to lose the creepiness of the film - this is what kind of happened here. It loses any type of ghost scariness and goes more down the route of running and hiding and just more of an action film. That is the last thing I have to say, I did kind of lose the film towards the end, the twist was great and it was good with the creepy moments, but that was kind of lost in the films finale.
Overall, Honeymoon from Hell is an alright film, it's not awful, if you watch it, you might think I could have watched something better but you won't regret it. Have a spare few hours and Netflix and go for it if you can't find anything else.
Watching horror films since like 2003, when I could stand dead bodies..
