BEWARE THE MOON REVIEWS
Now, I know what you're thinking, neither of these films are really horror films, trueeeeeeee, but I really want to compare King Kong from 2005, and the new one, Kong: Skull Island - I wanna have my say, damn it!
I feel it is only right to start with the earlier one, King Kong, (the one with Jack Black and Jamie Bell, who played Billy Elliot..). 'A movie crew, travelling to a mysterious island to shoot their picture, encounter a furious gorilla, taking their leading actress and forming a special relationship with her, protecting her at all costs.' I really like this film, I have seen it numerous times, yet, when my mum, (who is a sucker for King Kong.), puts it on when it's on TV for the 100th or so time, I can't help but watch it. But, I have to admit, as I have seen it so many times, I don't tend to watch it all - I mainly watch this one for the bugs and the part when they fall in the cave like place... Of course, the part with all the icky bugs and gore was my favourite part...
I love this film, normally remakes aren't a match on the original, but this one is so so good - but I hadn't really heard much bad about Kong: Skull Island. 'A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden.'
I hadn't really read up on Kong before seeing it, I had seen trailers and seen who was in it - no one from the older King Kong, but apart from that I didn't know anything really about the story. I had no idea if it was going to go back to the story how ever many years later or take a completely different look to it - luckily, they did the second option...
With Kong, the story is completely different, okay, so it's the same in some ways, such as no one believes there is a Skull Island, and there is a plane crash and such - little things like that. But compared to the older one, it's a good change. With the new story you have no idea what is going to happen, well, you have an idea, but very little of one. And you have no idea if Kong dies or not... No idea - gives you hope!
After watching them both, I didn't hate either of them at all, but I have to say, the 2005 one just wins the race. I have to go with it, the original story, Andy Serkis as Kong just makes it - and this one has more bugs... I may seem obsessed, but I really do like icky things like that, ever since I heard that the really old one had spiders in it that made people at the time faint, but that the film was lost - I WANTED THEM. King Kong had more of those for sure, I had heard that Skull Island was more about the monsters which was what I really wanted, and I did kind of get. Sadly, I wanted more of the creepy monsters, the ones from the bottoms of the pits, the giants bugs, like in the other - but I didn't really get that. I enjoyed it, but I did really want more creepy crawlies and just more icky - which I got in the 2005 one and not the new one.
Kong: Skull Island is a good film, it's not too shabby at all. I loved it, but the 2005 one did just win the race, how could it not?! It's the original story of how Beauty killed the Beast! And Andy Serkis is great as Kong...just FYI.
Stay watching the credits on Kong: Skull Island though! You will not regret it - IT'S INSANE.
Watching horror films since like 2003, when I could stand dead bodies..
