BEWARE THE MOON REVIEWS
Who watches a Christmas movie in June? Me! Only because it is a horror and I fancied it... "A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a festive demon to his family home." In my defence, I have been watching Happy!, the Netflix TV show, and that is set at Christmas so I am kind of used to Christmas songs this week...
I had fancied Krampus for a while to be fair, it just sounded like a fun little number, but I guess I just didn't have the guts to watch it when it wasn't at least December. Know what people say though?! Live a little! And so I did, and I watch Krampus in June. Did I regret it? Not at all, actually, I rather enjoyed it.
Krampus pretty much has what you want from a easy to watch horror movie - cliche, I know - but it does. It has a good easy story to follow, a good cast who make good characters, characters who you can easily relate to as well, especially at Christmas time, and have I mentioned that there is a twist at the end? Nope, well now I am! The ending is all over the place, but in a good way, things happen that you don't expect to, you think it's all over and it's not, a good few times... I don't mean to jump straight to the ending, but it is a good one, for a few minutes I was so sad with how it ends...but flips it all up again! It's great!
The main thing I have to say about this film, is the special effects as they are literally out of this world. From Krampus to the other little creatures, they are are done so well, every detail and they are genuinely so creepy as well. How dare they turn Christmas toys into flesh eating angry little creatures?! (Secretly I loved it all!). The make up though, they need awards for the FX in this film, if they don't already that is. It's creepy, people are being chased and killed by these little creatures that actually look like something out of nightmares, and it's Christmas! I was loving life. When people turn things that shouldn't be scary, YESSSSSS.
I really did enjoy this film, like so much, I liked the characters, I liked the story, I liked the creatures, I just really liked this film. So much so, I want to watch it every Christmas... think the parents will agree? We shall see... I also feel I spotted some little nods to my favourite Christmas film, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, but that may have just been me...
Watching horror films since like 2003, when I could stand dead bodies..
