BEWARE THE MOON REVIEWS
![]() This movie deserves a little pet on the head to be fair, (pet instead of pat, see what I did there?), it's a very clever little underrated movie to say the least. 'A psychological thriller about a man who bumps into an old crush and subsequently becomes obsessed with her, leading him to hold her captive underneath the animal shelter where he works. But what will the victim have in store for her captor?' ![]() Pet is a pretty underrated movie, I spoke to my friend at work, and mentioned it and she had never heard of it, and she likes horror like me. I said to my parents about watching it, and they also had never heard of it, like not even seen a trailer for it. I had not even seen a trailer on it, I came across it on Youtube and then looked into it - but I soon stopped that as soon as I saw it included a massive twist. And I love a good twist. Now, I watched this with both parents to start with, my mum then had to go to bed, so just my dad in the end, my mum going to bed mid way through it may say a little something about the film, but I shall get to that shortly. I know what you're thinking though, "You watched this with at least one parent, why is it under 'Reviews' and not 'Mum and Dad'?" Well, question asking people, I am putting it under Reviews because I am going to set it out a wee bit different to other reviews... ![]() I am setting this review into two sections. The first, will be a spoiler free one. The second part, will be littered with spoilers. Why am I doing it like this, I also hear you ask? This film has some seriously clever little twists, and ones that I would cry if I spoilt for anyone, so here goes. ![]() Spoiler free, part one. Pet is a clever film. A very very clever film, that is when it gets going. I say when it gets going because it is a very slow film to begin with, like the first half hour could have been half the time at least, if not had even less time than that. It was just a lot of slow watching the characters, and getting to know them and their relationship, nothing wrong with that to start with, everyone likes to learn about characters and such, but this is a bit too much. Like the characters, again, to start with, are simple, Seth is the weird lonely guy who gets obsessed with the nice friendly girl, Holly and, of course, Holly has an angry ex boyfriend. It's all the cliche characters out of horror films, which I definitely felt didn't need the amount of time it was given in film. I would definitely say this film is as slow burner. ![]() It's very slow and I feel it could have been cut down a lot for the first like 45 minutes. As I said to my mum when she asked about watching it, I said, technically, you probably could skip the first like 40-45 minutes and you won't really miss much, in my eyes anyway. Some might hate me for saying that and feel you need the build up. I feel you could have done with less, that's all, as soon as the film gets going in the second half - I am into it! This film gets so so so good. Like, I did not see anything coming that came, my mind was blown. The cliche are part of it, they lead you into the brilliant twists and with that old horror friend of a fake sense of security. Pet is a slow film, until the end, and the end does kind of make up for the slowness of the rest.. that is all I can really say without spoiling it, so if you haven't watched it, go watch it now and come back when you have. If you have seen it, don't you even think of leaving, you can read on. ![]() SPOILER SECTION, PART TWO. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ALL OF PET. I loved the twist!! Dear God, it blew me away. The fact that actually she is the one who likes to murder and is evil and he is trying to 'save her' from that and not that she's a slut or anything, NO WAY. She likes to murder and has murdered people, lots actually, and while Seth was stalking her, he saw her killing people. That's what he is trying to save her from! He's messed up, but is not the evil one out of the two of them at all. Well I say at all, he's not fully evil, he still stuck her in a cage and kept her there afterall, so that makes him a little evil... And then it throws something else at you when she basically beats him, and then turns out she is off living a normal life with Eric again, but wait, he is cheating on her, and she picks up a knife.... But she doesn't do anything with it, has she changed and left her murdering ways behind her? NOPE. Seth is in the cage, they are 'in love' and he is horrifically mutilated - turns out she takes all her murdering anger out on him. Again, MIND WAS BLOWN. The ending of this film is just so damn clever, like I love these twists, I didn't see either coming and I don't think I have ever really seen a film that has a twist like this. One that completely flips an entire movies and changes it all. It's insane. Bravo. Bravo. And you're safe. Pet is a good film, a slow film but with a hell of a twist or two, I would say definitely watch this film, start at the beginning and give it a go. If you get too bored, skip to like 40 minutes in, and you'll have a whale of a time after that. A big blue whale.
