I am a massive horror fan, a massive, and I feel passionately about them. Want to get me in a heated discussion? Just tell me how you feel horror films are a waste of time, I dare you. So one thing that I stand strongly about are remakes, and people deciding to try and fix something that isn't broken, aka, by remaking a film.
Take probably one of the worst remakes ever made, Psycho, if you can tell me why the original needed to be remade, with a good answer, may I add, I'll give you an internet pat on the back. I promise you will not be able to give me a good reason on why that film needs to exist - it is a colour, shot for shot remake, and missing the best actors for the job, why, man?!?! It also stars Vince Vaughn, who, no offence to the man, is not the best actor, but mainly, he's not scary. He doesn't have the Norman Bates feel to him, the likable side at the start and then the really uncomfortable side once you really what he is up to and into. Mr Vaughn does not have that. And Anne Heche is not as likable either as Marian, being that you still like her even when she stupidly steals all the money. In this film, you're not really that bothered on whether she is caught or not, or what happens, you just wonder why you are watching this rubbish... Sorry....
Okay, I am learning a lot about myself with this list, turns out there aren't a lot of remakes I really hate but the top one, some I didn't like, but I also didn't like the original that much.
Prom night is one that I didn't particularly like either of, but I did prefer the original. The original was fun, and I recall laughing with at least one head flying, while the new one was dull - it was slow and took itself way too seriously. It could have been good, it had the prospect to be a big summer blockbuster, but no, no no no. I would say try again, but I am not sure I will lose sleep if they don't.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, to the final one, last, but definitely not least, the best of the bunch in someways....THE WICKER MAN. This was a sure winner in this list, being that even if you're not a fan of the original, you have to agree its a classic; its an unwritten rule. Whereas the new one, with lovely Nic Cage, is another kind of classic altogether. The new one is an infamous film for, what I think, are all the reasons a film should not be known for, but hey, it takes it in its stride.
There is nothing really good about the Wickerman, yet, I loved watch it, every single minute of it. I wouldn't watch it again, but I enjoyed it that one time I saw it, and I enjoy YouTubing the best parts and watch them all over and over again, and then recommending people to watch the highlights - not the whole thing, just on YouTube. What that says about this film, I have no idea..
Overall, remakes aren't terrible, they aren't needed a lot of the time, but turns out I don't mind them all the time. Fancy that!
One of my biggest pet hates in horror movies, and something I tend to loath, more than cheap jump scares and women who always fall over and do nothing, are kids. I hate kids in horror movies. Hate. Why, some of you might be saying, well then you have never watched any film with a kid, maybe take a look at some of the movies below and you might change your mind...
One of the worst kids in a film is Sally in the remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. She is so bad, that not only does she ruin them moving there, (she lets out the creatures that makes this entire film, go tits up..), she also grasses people up, and blames others for what she has done.
I even remember the first time I decided to hate her, she finds the secret passageway to the creatures, is warned not to open it, when she tries and can't open it, she grasses it up to her dad. And BAM, the creatures are let out. Thanks to her, everything goes wrong, and she leaves the problem to get solved by someone else. The film actually wasn't that bad, but I just couldn't enjoy it or like it because of Sally. She down right ruined it. I have the same feelings about her as I do Carl.. Speaking of Carl...
This is a bit of a different one as it is not a movie, but it is horror, and the kid is so annoying, he can be let off. This one I am talking about, is of course, Carl from The Walking Dead, Caaaaarl, Coraal. I have never liked him as a character, never. Even when he was younger he thought he was better than anyone, and WOULD NOT STAY WHERE HE WAS TOLD.
Some might say he has got better with age, I disagree, he still thinks he is a full know it all on life and zombies, yet, he is like, what, 12, nah, sit down Coraal.
Yes, he is a little brave, I will give him that, being that he did have SPOILER to shoot his own mother, but still, he just portrays that he knows it all and could do everything so much better, and he can't/. Is it bad I wanted him to not make it when he was shot in the eye.. and that I wanted him to be Negan's victim by Lucelle? Nope? Okay then.
My next choice, I'm pretty sure, is a very popular choice to go on lists like this, especially after talking to at least two friends about this film. This choice is the kid, Samuel, from The Babadook, and now I have said that, I think everyone knows why.. He is a brat. He is a brat and doesn't get any better. He screams, he makes the mum read this book and wake the Babadook up, and he screams. He also beats the mum at some points, scares the dog, and interrupts the mother's, ermmmm, alone time, to just scream at her more.
Even just seeing a photo annoys me, when he doesn't get his own way, he just shouts and screams, and if I was his mum, I would have let the Babadook take him...
This one isn't all horror, it mainly goes into the sci-fi genre too, but this child is so so annoying, they are allowed on this list. This one always stays in my mind whenever I think of annoying children, Rachel from War of The Worlds, joins the list.
Gosh, I am seeing a pattern with all these kids, they all do the same thing that annoys me...they all just scream. And that is what Rachel does, she just screams, she moans like a brat, (to be fair, her brother could be on here too, they both give poor Tom Cruise a hard time, but he is not as bad and we lose him half way through it, so we'll let that go.), and she cries and screams. I know she's young and the world is being attacked by aliens, but still, sssssssh.
As you can see, I don't like kids in horror films, or many movies to be fair, and these are some of the worst. I can think of many more, but these are the worst..
This is why I don't have any kids, and why I prefer having fur babies...
