mum and dad
Guess what?! Me and mum were off on the same day and I managed to rope...I mean persuade...her into watching a horror film with me. I had a good one lined up too; As Above so Below, one that I had been recommended a good few times and always looked good whenever I saw the trailer. "When a team of explorers ventures into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead." ![]() From the get go, I had not a lot of sympathy for the characters, Scarlett, the main British girl, obviously she would be British, decides for her History course she wants to go and see some history. Not too bad I hear you say, learning history is not too bad and is a good thing to learn, right?! WRONG, it is wrong when you decide you're going to learn about History by visiting the Catacombs, the Catacombs of all places! Now, if you don't know what the Catacombs are they are basically tunnels under Paris that have been there for hundreds of years, they are open to the public at times, but only certain areas. Meaning, you're not allowed into parts under there, and for good reasons too. People have gotten lost under there and have never been seen again, people have also reported seeing ghostly images and movements down there too - all stuff that makes you want to break in and see, yeah?! Noooooo. I would not go into the forbidden parts if you paid me, honestly, no, nah, nahhhhhh. But these people do, and obviously it does not go well, and I really have no such sympathy for them, at all. Things start going tits up, and I find myself sitting there just watching and thinking, well, you made your bed... I am a nice person really. ![]() Apart from the characters being really stupid, As Above so Below is not that bad a film. It's a fairly well done film in my opinion, confusing but I liked it. The images that the characters see and how they tell you about their lives and all the little secrets people have - I liked it. Saying that though, I think that was what it was showing, bad little secrets people have done in their lives - I haven't Googled it yet, so that's what I got from this film. See, this is what I was saying, it is a little bit confusing... Mum at one point asked me what the significance with all the things they were finding was, and I said that - and then doubted myself and said "I think". This film makes you doubt yourself, after this, I am going to Google this mother - I am on it, fingers crossed I picked the story in the way I was meant to... I liked As Above so Below, I am very glad I finally saw it, very glad, it's entertaining and once it gets going, you'll keep watching. (Bit slow to start with, but keep with it, Mother almost gave up..). The last half of the film is good, and creepy, and I did really enjoy all the creepy noises and images and people they saw, and there was even a little chase. I liked it, simple. I wouldn't watch it in a hurry again, but it was good and fun. What else do you need for a weekday horror film with your Mother?!
