mum and dad
![]() Somehow, I managed to watch two films in one day, two very different movies and the one that was better is the one that was least expected to be the best - Deliver Us From Evil was the better one. "New York police officer Ralph Sarchie investigates a series of crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest, schooled in the rites of exorcism, to combat the possessions that are terrorizing their city." Deliver Us From Evil is one of those films that pops up on a few list when you have those moments of weakness where you have no idea what to watch and turn to the internet for help. Mum had gone to bed and me and dad were looking for something to watch, this one popped up and I mentioned how I'd heard of it, apparently that is enough for my dad to say yes to. Straight off the bat, I liked the cast, Eric Bana is a pretty good actor, who just has a nice face, and his partner in the film is the one and only Joel McHale. Don't get me started on my love for that man, since watching him on The Soup, I would happily watch anything with him in it, and I do, shout out to the Joel McHale show, apart from Community, couldn't get into that... Anyhoo, I liked the cast from the get go, and it was a horror, so I was pretty happy, happy all the way to the end I am pleased to say. ![]() Deliver Us From Evil is actually a pretty good film, I didn't go in expecting anything really, and especially as I don't tend to be a fan of the whole exorcism thing, but this was not that shabby and I was into it the whole way through. It got later and me and dad both mentioned about finishing it the next day, but nope, was finished that same night. It's just an interesting story, and it never really slows to the point that it gets boring. It slows down, it's not always action and fights, a lot of it is though obviously, but it slows down to create tension and it does it well. Even included are the cliche kids toys, like a very interesting rolling owl that has a weird little hoot, and the good old Jack in the Box. (Who buys their kid a Jack in the Box anyway?! Those things are terrifying!) The actual possessions and the make up was super creepy too, it wasn't over the top, just enough, just enough make up and screaming running people to keep you on the edge of your seat. Nothing fancy, just good old fancy simple possession make up. And obviously those people screaming, running and attacking people - especially in the end possession scene, shit hits the fan there. Deliver Us From Evil definitely delivered something, and that is it delivers a very entertaining little movie. I was impressed and it past the time happily, good cast, good story and it was creepy. Little hidden gem on Netflix.
