The Mist

So, after months of seeing it advertised but never knowing when it would be showing over here in the UK or if I had actually missed it all, I got round to binge watching The Mist TV series...  Drum roll please, and I liked it.  'After an eerie mist rolls into a small town, the residents must battle the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain their morality and sanity.'  Normally I am not a fan of TV series based on books or films, such as The Exorcist, but I was pleasantly surprised by this.

Now, the big question here is, did I prefer it to the film, The Mist?  Well no, if I am being honest, I preferred the film, but not by much.  The TV show did have some good ideas though, like some very clever ideas... but before I go, I have to own up... I have never read the book of The Mist!  So, when I say, "oh, I like such and such idea in the tv series", I could well be talking about something that was in the book and I would not know, so if there any people reading this who have read it, please forgive me, I plan to read it, sometime... I am not that much of a reader though so it might take me a fair while.  Carrying on with the actual series though...

The Mist is a good TV series and I do like some of the changes from the film, such as the mist itself.  The TV series mist seems to have its own thoughts, and plays with people and their fears.  In the film, you go out and you get attacked by some horrible bug like creature, while in the TV show, you go out and something that you are scared of will attack you - most might have massive spiders, or bad eyebrows...  And I liked that idea, that it's like hunting you, you won't step out into it straight away and get eaten, you could be out in it for hours seeing all sorts and not knowing what is real or not.  That's terrifying.  But, and there is a but, saying that, I think I prefer the film mist, I just kind of missed the creepy creatures to be fair...  I like both though, I wouldn't want to be out in either, let's say that, both were creepy enough to say that.

Another thing I have to say about the series, is that it did seem to go on for a bit too long, me and my dad, who I watched it with, both said we lost concentration a few times, and then would gain it again, only to lose it again.  We just felt it went on for a bit too long, either the series could have had less episodes or shorter episodes.  I am not sure what they could have taken out as it all seemed to sit together quite well, I was more interested in some stories more than others, but I still feel none were not needed at all.  Just maybe less episodes could have worked.

I liked this series, I wanted to like it and I did, I was pleasantly surprised being from my relationships with horror tv shows...  I will be watching the next series, if it doesn't get cancelled that is..., as it did leave it on a very good cliffhanger I must say.  I hated some of the characters though, hateeeeeeeeed, and really wished them dead, and I feel that shows something good about the show, that I was that interested I cared.
I have to admit, I am intrigued by what the next series could bring, and I might even have to read the book.  I prefer the film, but this is good enough to keep watching.  It's on Netflix, so give it a go!
